A Contribution to Soil Fertility Assessment for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands

چکیده

Soil fertility must be viewed as a dynamic concept that involves the constant cycling of nutrients between organic and inorganic forms. In this context, it refers also to supply adequate amounts water aeration for plant growth. under arid semi-arid lands is constrained not only by limited availability but small matter contents. Most assessment systems are based on contents main parameter. However, crop experiments from various irrigated soils indicate productivity less-affected than assumed. Therefore, we propose new soil system dryland soils. It rule-based set algorithms, mainly using additions subtractions. Soil, climate, landscape factors integrated calculate numerical value given soil. We expect system, which focused properties keep or increase optimum moisture (such texture), applicable in provide more realistic estimates regarding agricultural purposes. The manuscript will an outline aspects illustrated case applications.

Soil Clay Content Mapping Using a Time Series of Landsat TM Data in Semi-Arid Lands

Clay content (fraction < 2 μm) is one of the most important soil properties. It controls soil hydraulic properties like wilting point, field capacity and saturated hydraulic conductivity, which in turn control the various fluxes of water in the unsaturated zone. In our study site, the Kairouan plain in central Tunisia, existing soil maps are neither exhaustive nor sufficiently precise for water...

00554 - 9 - Arid and Semi - Arid Geomorphology

The world’s arid lands are some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth, and their paucity of vegetation often makes it possible to see landforms and structures with great clarity (Figure 1.1). In addition, they have many characteristics both in terms of landforms and geomorphological processes that render them different from other major environments (see, for example, Laity, 2008; Parsons an...
